Today I went to Fort Langley, the place where the province of British Columbia all started. It was like a mini town. It had almost everything. It had a farm and garden, blacksmith shop, trading sections, council house, shelter, defensive equipments, storage, cafe and kitchen. The people who originally lived there were employees of the Hudson Bay Company (HBC). The employees married the local aboriginal women and made better relationships with the aboriginals. In 1858 the people in Fort Langley found gold in the Fraser river, but they were afraid of letting the Americans to know or else they would come and take the gold. They soon created the colony of British Columbia to stop the Americans from coming. In 1866, British Columbia became part of Canada. Everything that we see in BC right now, started from that little area where it does not even add up to 1km square.
